Sunshine Pantry is a non-profit pantry offering food, clothing, household items, toys and toiletries to families in need in Beaverton, Oregon. The Pantry spreads warmth, happiness and love to everyone who comes through their doors in trying times.

Holiday Event

Please help us bring celebration to the struggling.

We need holiday toys and gifts for all ages and fixings for holiday dinners!

We want to thank all who have helped us to make this a great year for helping those in need. The holidays are upon us and each year we do our best to bring celebration to those struggling. We need toys and gifts for all ages as well as staple foods. For the holiday feast dinner we provide a ham or turkey but we always need the other tradition accompaniments.

Community coming together has always been our success. Volunteers are always welcome and at this time of year we need them more than ever before. We also need cash donations to help us with gas for our delivery vehicles and to buy food that hasn’t been donated. Thank you again for all your support, care and consideration. Without you we wouldn’t be able to provide for so many.

Leah Sauer Service to the Community Award — This year’s recipient is Sharon Straus

The Leah Sauer Award is given in recognition of a gracious and beautiful woman who was a true champion for American Mothers. 

This year’s recipient is Sharon Straus founder of Sunshine Pantry. Sharon has been married for 42 years to her husband, Stewart. She has four sons and three grandchildren, adopted several children as adults, and hundreds look to her as their adopted mother and grandmother.

Thirty years ago, in 1982, Sharon coordinated a Cub Scout Pack needy family project that assisted six families in the neighborhood at Christmas.  Over the next years, she saw a need for food more than just at Christmas time, so she started feeding people out of her garage year-round.  The project grew, she adopted the name Sunshine Pantry, and eventually she moved to a 3,500 square feet facility where, with the help of over a hundred volunteers, she helps 50 families a day.

“Our main focus is the family.  In the hour of crisis, we believe no child should go to bed hungry.”  And she still does not charge a dime to anyone.
